BIRTHDAY BOY PERRY SALUTED AT TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL

Box office busting writer/director TYLER PERRY celebrated his 40th birthday at the Toronto Film Festival in style on Saturday night (12Sep09) with a song from MARY J. BLIGE and greetings from OPRAH WINFREY and MARIAH CAREY.

Carey jetted in from Las Vegas, where she was performing two weekend shows, to help launch her new film Precious, but Perry was the man of the moment at the launch party.

After declaring his new film, I Can Do Bad All By Myself, would be America's number one movie on Sunday, Lions Gate studio bosses sprung a surprise on the filmmaker.
Blige, who makes her movie debut in his new film, sang a personalised Happy Birthday and Precious producer Winfrey was on hand to pay tribute to her pal before he was presented with a birthday cake.
I Can Do Bad All By Myself stormed to the top of the U.S. box office with $24 million (£16 million) in opening weekend sales.
