Tyler's segment will be on tonight. I came across a few short articles regarding his interview. I see why he said in his last message that he finally addresses the critics. Per the articles below, he will get the praise and the criticism of his work.
But CNN did give time to one major celebrity: Atlantan Tyler Perry. Perry recalled how white executives scoffed at his film ideas, one saying, "Black people who go to church don't go to the movies."
Perry now has a string of hit movies and TV shows and opened a 30-acre studio in southwestern Atlanta last fall. "He's very much in the mold of black ownership," said series host Soledad O'Brien in an interview this week. "Ownership gives him power."
In the series, Perry said he saw his dad, a carpenter, make $800 for building a home. But the owner sold it for $30,000. Perry wanted to be "the man who owned the house."
Not that Perry gets a free ride. Pop culture professor Todd Boyd disparages Perry's Madea character as stereotypical, saying Perry "has gone backward."
Perry was clearly annoyed, noting the spirituality and deeper messages in his films. "How dare you insult me that way," he said, "when you are looking at one little bit of a totality of a message?"
…
Actor, writer and filmmaker Tyler Perry is also profiled as a pioneer, and he certainly deserves it. But neither O'Brien nor the producers treat him with kid gloves in deference to his millions of devoted fans.
They engagingly chronicle his incredible career and accomplishments, even as they deftly use his story to show the disconnect between the white Hollywood power structure and black audiences. But they also bring in a black cultural analyst who offers a harsh critique of the images in some of Perry's work. As good as the landmark CBS newsmagazine 60 Minutes is, it rarely balances portraits of major cultural figures with any tough criticism of their work. Good for CNN in trying to offer a multidimensional look at the man and his work - though it will probably catch some heat for it.

I watched Black in America 2 and really enjoyed it. I was also watching So you think you can dance. I wanted to see katie holmes dance. She did a pretty good job. I thought what the African American doctors were doing in Chicago was terrific. Why cant other doctors volunteer their time elsewhere then we wouldnt have the problem with healthcare. I was surprised that Tyler's segment wasnt the same thing. I think he took us to heart and really gave us something more. At least, CNN did. His studio is fabulous looking. Why he cant invite fans who made him to it and have an all out party! just a thought.

Earlier I went to CNN site to see if they had a preview on Tyler. CNN did. I was watching the video and had to do a double take because tyler kept twisting his ring finger like he had a ring on. I was like What did he get married. Alas there is no ring. He does his finger like there was a ring on it. men do it all the time.
